About the Lab
Our Biogeochemical Modeling Laboratory at Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution aims to understand the impact and feedback of marine microbial and biogeochemical dynamics on global carbon and biogeochemical cycles. We develop and utilize mechanistic biogeochemical models of differing complexity in conjunction with the analysis of observational data, Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning (AI/ML), and other data-driven modeling approaches.
Current research topics focus on understanding how microorganisms influence the ocean's biological pump, examining how microbial-biogeochemical feedback impacts air-sea carbon flux, developing multi-scale models that combine microbial metabolic and biogeochemical processes, and evaluating the potential benefits and risks of Ocean Alkalinity Enhancement (OAE).
