H. Heather Kim, Ph.D.

Biogeochemical Modeling Laboratory

About the Lab

Our Biogeochemical Modeling Laboratory at Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution aims to understand the impact and feedback of marine biogeochemical dynamics on the Earth's climate system. We develop and utilize mechanistic biogeochemical models of differing complexity in conjunction with the analysis of observations and data-driven modeling. Current research topics in our lab include microbial control on the biological carbon pump, biogeochemical feedback on air-sea CO2 flux, biophysical interactions in polar oceans, and ocean Carbon Dioxide Removal (CDR).

Join the Lab

Undergraduate students

Join our lab through the WHOI Summer Student Fellowship program.

Graduate students

Prospective graduate students should apply to the MIT-WHOI Joint Ph.D. program in Oceanography / Applied Ocean Science & Engineering.

Those who are interested in working with Heather as postdocs should apply to the WHOI Postdoctoral Scholarship program.
